Clinical Massage for Veterans II- Lower Body- Central NY
This Clinical Massage Therapy for Veterans II class is designed to collaborate with the Gross Anatomy and Physical Therapy lectures through Crouse Hospital.
Participants shall learn how to evaluate and treat common injuries and dysfunctions to pelvis, leg, foot and ankle with massage therapy skills. These hands on techniques shall include (but may not be limited to) deep tissue, myofascial patterns, and neuromuscular pathways.
Class content shall be primarily hands-on learning supported by lecture encompassing:
• Evaluation of pain and dysfunction
• Identifying neural pathways involved
• Conditions associated with pain and injuries
• Orthopedic tests for evaluation and treatment of conditions
• Developing treatment techniques to pain and or dysfunction
• Applying appropriate techniques to Veterans who are disabled
Conditions covered for lower body: pelvis, leg, foot and ankle shall include Sciatic Nerve pathologies, Piriformis Syndrome, Sacroilliac Joint Dysfunction, Iliopsoas Dysfunction, Ligament Sprains of Knee and Ankle, Meniscus Tears, ITB Friction Syndrome, Achilles Tendon Disorder, Stress Fracture, Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome, Mortons Neuroma. Nerve compressions and dysfunctions will be discussed during lecture and will be integrated in the treatment of the lower body: pelvis, leg, foot and ankle.
Prerequisite of this class: Students should have a good understanding of the anatomy, muscle function, ranges and planes of motion of the lower body, including pelvis, leg, ankle, and foot.
This class can be applied toward the ”Specialty Certificate in Military Veterans Massage.” This program is the first of its kind in the nation,.
PRESENTER: Lauren Felice, BA, AS, LMT, NCTMB, NCCPT
Lauren has her Bachelors of Art in Ethics and Practical Reasoning in Integrative Healthcare, Associates of Science in Bilogy; is a NYS Licensed Massage Therapist; certified by the NCBTMB and is a Personal Trainer certified by the NCCPT. She has been in private practice since 1998 in Syracuse, NY, has over 40,000 clinic hours of practice, and owns and operates Avanti Healing Arts; an integrative medical practice in East Syracuse, NY. Her acquisiting of her degrees as well as certification in Medical, Orthopedic Assessment, CranioSacral, Lymphatic Drainage, Neuromuscular, Active Isolated Stretching, Pain Management and other various therapeutic modalities have entitled her to teach for the Orthopedic Massage Educational Research Institute (OMERI), owned and operated by author and therapist Mr. Whitney Lowe. Her assistance to Mr. Lowe consists of training in Functional Orthopedic Assessment and Treatment protocols to other medical professionals. In addition her teaching as also been received at the NYS Chiropractic College in Seneca Falls, NY; Onondaga School of Therapeutic Massage in Syracuse, NY; Upstate Medical University Sports Medicine Symposium; State University of NY at Empire State College; Crouse Hospital Integrative Medicine Series as well as many professional and non-profit organization.

CEH’s will be granted only to those who register and attend the entire class. No partial credit can/will be awarded.
Cancellations of more than 14 days prior to a class are eligible for a full refund. Cancellations less than 14 days are not refundable, but monies less a $100 processing fee may be applied to any future AMTA-NY Chapter event. No shows are not eligible for refund or use on future classes. Cancellations are based on post mark or email date and all cancellations must be in writing. Exceptions made only with approval of the AMTA-NY Chapter Board of Directors. Continuing Education Credit Certificates given only upon successful completion of class. No partial credit will be issued. Partial refunds for non-completed classes given only in emergency situations and with Chapter President’s approval.

We welcome all licensed massage therapists and currently enrolled massage therapy students to our classes, however per New York State law, you must have a New York State massage therapy license to participate in the hands-on portions. (Currently enrolled students may participate in hands-on if accompanied by their school instructor.)
