Description:
For centuries, Gross Anatomy has provided modern medicine with a strong foundation for exploration, information gathering, and research. Through the careful palpation of dissected cadavers, this class will offer massage therapists the ability to enhance their understanding of the human body and anatomy, especially the skeletal system. Students will receive an anatomy lecture and a corresponding palpation lab where they will don protective gear and explore skeletal & muscular structures of cadavers and cadaver sections. You will explore that area of the body thoroughly and explore some bodies with relative pathologies such as an ACL tear, rotator cuff injury, etc. In addition, Dr. Berg will offer a lecture overview of major pathologies or injuries common to those areas

Students will recall a brief synopsis of gross anatomy history.

This class can be applied toward the “Specialty Certificate in Military Veterans Massage.” This is the first of its kind in the nation, click here for more details on this unique program.

PRESENTER: Dr. Kelly Meyers, PT, DPT, CSCS, CPRP, currently treats adults and children while practicing outpatient physical therapy and sports injury rehabilitation in conjunction with dance and Pilates rehab services at the Upstate Medical University Outpatient Therapy.

PRESENTER: Dr. Norton Berg, PhD is a professor of gross anatomy at SUNY Upstate Medical University and director of the anatomical gift program.

CLASS MATERIALS: Wear clothing that is unimportant as smells from the Lab can be strong.

Location: 765 Irving Avenue (corner of Irving and Waverly Avenues) in Syracuse, New York.

Take Exit 13 and take the Townsend Street exit. At the traffic light at end of exit, turn left onto Townsend Street and go straight until you reach the seventh traffic light at corner of Townsend and East Adams Street. Turn left onto East Adams Street. At the fourth traffic light, turn right onto Irving Avenue. Go past Crouse Hospital on the right and continue down Irving Avenue. The Marley Education Center is on the corner of Irving and Waverly Avenues.

Requests made 14 or fewer days before the class will receive a credit less a $100 processing fee applicable for AMTA course offerings within a year of cancellation.

Any exceptions must be approved by the AMTA-NY Chapter Board of Directors.
