Class Description
Myofascial Release (MFR) is a gentle, hands-on Physical Therapy technique that facilitates a sustained stretch into restricted soft tissue. The Myofascial Release method was developed by John F. Barnes in an attempt to alleviate his own back pain. MFR restores length and health to the myofascial tissues and takes pressure off of pain-sensitive tissues like nerves and blood vessels. This ultimately restores alignment and mobility of joints, muscles and soft tissue, thereby reducing pain and restoring functional movement.

About the Instructor

Lisa Satalino

After graduating from Russell Sage College in 1986 I have practiced physical therapy with a specialization in the area of Myofascial Release and Craniosacral Therapy. I have taken all of John F. Barnes’ courses and passed his Proficiency Assessment, and have served as an assistant instructor and coordinator for John F. Barnes’ seminars nationally.

I created the MFR curriculum for the Center for Natural Wellness School of Massage Therapy in 1999 and continue to oversee the ongoing development of this curriculum at present. Additionally I have developed a 118 hour Certification program in MFR and co-created a 16 hour seminar on the foot and its relationship to upper chain disorders for the Professional Continued Education Division of CNWSMT – an approved provider of continued education for licensed physical therapists and massage therapists. More recently I have developed curriculum to support athletic training practices based on updates in fascial research and have developed and implemented injury prevention practices and rehabilitation for a local USAG gymnastics team.

My clinical experience includes working in home care, early intervention, the school setting, rehabilitation, private practice, and with equine athletes and gymnasts. I have been certified in Fascial Movement Taping Levels 1 and 2 and am a NYS certified early intervention provider.

At present I am the Executive Director of the Center for Natural Wellness School of Massage Therapy where I oversee and manage all operations of this private trade school, its working clinic, bookstore, and Professional Education program.
