Class Description:
During this hands on class, we will explore the anatomy and physiology of pregnancy along with learning how pregnancy impacts the body. We will review in this class, safe draping protocols, proper positioning, while keeping optimal body mechanics for massage therapists in side-lying, semi reclined, and in supine. Today’s modern pregnancy requires the importance of using correct or inclusive language and to have an understanding of current guidelines of massage in all trimesters of pregnancy. We will explore how to treat common issues that occur during pregnancy and discuss perinatal mood disorders and how massage can have an impact on the clients struggling with them, their partners, and families. We will look at research and benefits of pregnancy massage. We will explain the ethical concepts of informed consent and power differential as well using gender inclusive language when working with clients.

This is a hands-on classes, please bring your table, 2-4 Pillows, towels, lotion, bolster, sheets, and small towel or small blanket for positioning. Loose fitting top.

Kim is certified or trained in the following modalities: • A doula . Perinatal loss doula • Pregnancy Massage • Arvigo Techniques of Mayan Abdominal Therapy™ • Visceral Manipulation I • Infant Massage Therapy for both healthy and infants living with special health concerns • Pediatric Massage • Reiki • Cranial Sacral Therapy.  Kim has been working with woman and pregnancy, infants and children for over 25 years. In her massage practice, Kim works daily with woman and children, many of whom have special medical considerations, are living with a diagnosis, or dealing with chronic pain. Her experience and work in pregnancy massage, pediatric massage, infant massage, are regularly sought out by professionals and organizations. Kim has presented trainings and lectures on the following: pregnancy massage, treatment massage in pregnancy, comfort massage in labor, and infant massage, pediatric massage. She enjoys working with parents, chiropractors, massage therapists, teachers, doctors, nurses, social workers, childbirth educators, and lactation consultants. She is passionate about educating massage therapists to help them gain knowledge and understand the techniques that are needed to work with pregnancy, infants, and pediatrics. Kim also regularly volunteers her services and continually provides respite for families who are living with an infant or child who is living with a disability or diagnosis. She was a founding member for the Doula Cooperative of Rochester, she volunteers as a doula to high­ risk moms and provides support in the NICU and beyond for couples who must welcome and say goodbye to their baby at the same time or need to give birth to their baby being born silent.

Course Completion/Cancellation info: -CEHs and certificates will be granted only to those who register and attend the entire class. No partial credit will be awarded. – Cancellation requests made prior to 14 days of class start date are eligible for a refund less a $35 processing fee. – Requests made 14 or fewer days before the class will receive a credit less a $100 processing fee applicable for AMTA course offerings within a year of cancellation. – All cancellation requests must be made in writing and are based on date of post mark or email. – Any exceptions must be approved by the AMTA-NY Chapter Board of Directors.  Partial refunds for non-completed classes given only in emergency situations and with Chapter President’s approval.  No-shows are not eligible for refund or credit for future classes

The American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) ​is ​an ​Approved ​Provider ​for ​continuing ​Education ​by ​the ​NYSED ​Office ​of ​the ​Professions ​State ​Board for ​Massage ​Therapy ​(#009). National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) credit will be awarded by Kim Corpus.

We welcome all NYS licensed massage therapists, NYS professionals who are licensed to provide massage (physicians, nurses, podiatrists, physical therapists, chiropractors) and currently enrolled massage therapy students to our classes. Per New York State law, you must either have a New York State license to participate in the hands-on portions or, in the case of massage therapy students, be directly supervised by your instructor or other licensed massage therapist.
