Class Description:

During this hands-on class participants will gain an understanding of terms and classification used in the field of mental health. They will learn about the many benefits of massage for those living with a mental health concern or diagnosis. Participants will gain an understanding in the basic concepts on how to approach and safely adapt massage when working within many aspects and diagnosis with this special population. Participants will learn how massage can benefit & support the families or caregivers of those living with a diagnosis. We will discuss things like anxiety, depression, PTSD, sleep disorders, perinatal mood disorders, and addictive behaviors and more. We will explore the research on mental health and massage and how to use it to talk to other care providers to get referrals. We will also discuss scope of practice and boundaries, and when to refer out, when working with this population.

What to Bring: massage table, sheets, lubricant, pen, water bottle, and a willingness to look at and do massage in totally different ways than you have done before!

Kim is both a New York State and NCBTMB approved provider. She has worked with massage & mental health concerns or diagnosis within several populations. She has had the honor to work with patients at Crouse hospital, veterans, pediatrics, domestic violence survivors, substance abuse/addiction, adolescents, perinatal mood disorder patients, and more in her role as an LMT. She has taught mental health and massage in many places, like Elements Massage Inc. nationwide, at the AMTA Georgia state convention and for AMTA NY. She has consulted with several massage schools throughout the country to include this topic in their curriculum to prepare massage therapists for the millions of people living with a mental health concern or diagnosis!

Course Completion/Cancellation info: -CEHs and certificates will be granted only to those who register and attend the entire class. No partial credit will be awarded. – Cancellation requests made prior to 14 days of class start date are eligible for a refund less a $35 processing fee. – Requests made 14 or fewer days before the class will receive a credit less a $100 processing fee applicable for AMTA course offerings within a year of cancellation. – All cancellation requests must be made in writing and are based on date of post mark or email. – Any exceptions must be approved by the AMTA-NY Chapter Board of Directors.  Partial refunds for non-completed classes given only in emergency situations and with Chapter President’s approval.  No-shows are not eligible for refund or credit for future classes

The American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) ​is ​an ​Approved ​Provider ​for ​continuing ​Education ​by ​the ​NYSED ​Office ​of ​the ​Professions ​State ​Board for ​Massage ​Therapy ​(#009). National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) credit will be awarded by Kim Corpus.

We welcome all NYS licensed massage therapists, NYS professionals who are licensed to provide massage (physicians, nurses, podiatrists, physical therapists, chiropractors) and currently enrolled massage therapy students to our classes. Per New York State law, you must either have a New York State license to participate in the hands-on portions or, in the case of massage therapy students, be directly supervised by your instructor or other licensed massage therapist.
