CLASS DESCRIPTION:
This class is designed to educate licensed massage therapist in the safe practices of oncology massage. Students will develop a keen appreciation and understanding of the latest concepts and cancer biology and cancer therapeutics. This course will provide the students with an understanding of how specific cellular processes are altered during cancer initiation and progression: how cancer is designed and classified; understanding cancer risk factors cancer screenings; cancer treatments, side effects and treatment related symptoms; palliative care; oncology emergencies; medical devices; communicating with the primary medical team. The hands-on portion of the class is designed to give practitioner strategies for safe and effective ways to bolster, drape and position clients, as well as touch pressures to consider.

Felicia Newsome
Felicia Newsome, LMT, specializing in oncology massage since 2005 with comprehensive training in the outpatient and inpatient settings at Memorial Sloane-Kettering Caner Center (2005-2011), and the chemo- infusion setting at NYU Pearlmutter Cancer Center (2009-2016)
Daniel Verina
Daniel Verina is a graduate for New York University Masters in Nursing program in 2010. He is New York State Licensed in Acute Care Nurse Practitioner since 2010 and currently practices at Mount Sinai Medical Center in the Multiple Myeloma Service. Daniel Verina has been a practicing RN in oncology since 2004. Since 2012, Daniel has been an adjunct professor at William Paterson University teaching Undergraduate and Graduate courses including Advance Pathophysiology and Health assessment throughout the age span. He also is a member of International Multiple Myeloma Foundation Nursing Leadership Board

CEH’s will be granted only to those who register and attend the entire class. No partial credit can/will be awarded.
Cancellations of more than 14 days prior to a class are eligible for a full refund. Cancellations less than 14 days are not refundable, but monies less a $100 processing fee may be applied to any future AMTA-NY Chapter event. No shows are not eligible for refund or use on future classes. Cancellations are based on post mark or email date and all cancellations must be in writing. Exceptions made only with approval of the AMTA-NY Chapter Board of Directors. Continuing Education Credit Certificates given only upon successful completion of class. No partial credit will be issued. Partial refunds for non-completed classes given only in emergency situations and with Chapter President’s approval.

and by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) (#450787-08).
We welcome all licensed massage therapists and currently enrolled massage therapy students to our classes, however per New York State law, you must have a New York State massage therapy license to participate in the hands-on portions. (Currently enrolled students may participate in hands-on if accompanied by their school instructor.)
