Description:
This class is designed to give you the knowledge and skill set to safely provide massage to pregnant clients. Over the two days, you will learn common terminology used in pregnancy, postural changes, muscles and ligaments involvement-how to treat them, contraindications, draping, positioning adaptations, research, and marketing.
Attendees should bring:
Massage table, lubricant, 2 sets of sheets, 2 or 3 pillows with pillowcases on them, or a body pillow and a pillow with cases on them, a blanket, pen, paper, a 3 ring binder, and a water bottle.
Special Instructions for what students should bring or wear:
Wear comfortable clothes that you are used to massaging in, some of the work may be on the floor so be prepared.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives:
Learning Outcome;
-Attendees will demonstrate proficiency in pregnancy massage.
Learning Objectives;
-Attendee will list indications and contraindications of preforming a pregnancy massage
-Attendee will properly position a pregnant client prone (if applicable,) supine, and side-lying
-Attendee will learn different ways to safely drape a pregnant client
-Attendee will acknowledge postural changes of a pregnant client
-Attendee will demonstrate proper body mechanics during the massage session

Kim is certified or trained in the following modalities:

• Infant Massage Therapy for both healthy and infants living with special health concerns
• Pediatric Massage

Kim has been working with woman and pregnancy, infants and children for over 25 years. In her massage practice, Kim works daily with woman and children, many of whom have special medical considerations, are living with a diagnosis, or dealing with chronic pain. Her experience and work in pregnancy massage, pediatric massage, infant massage, are regularly sought out by professionals and organizations.

Kim has presented trainings and lectures on the following: pregnancy massage, treatment massage in pregnancy, comfort massage in labor, and infant massage, pediatric massage. She enjoys working with parents, chiropractors, massage therapists, teachers, doctors, nurses, social workers, childbirth educators, and lactation consultants. She is passionate about educating massage therapists to help them gain knowledge and understand the techniques that are needed to work with pregnancy, infants, and pediatrics.

Kim also regularly volunteers her services and continually provides respite for families who are living with an infant or child who is living with a disability or diagnosis. She was a founding member for the Doula Cooperative of Rochester, she volunteers as a doula to high­risk moms and provides support in the NICU and beyond for couples who must welcome and say goodbye to their baby at the same time or need to give birth to their baby being born silent.

Payments of cash will not be accepted at the door – only checks or credit cards.

CEH’s will be granted only to those who register and attend the entire class. No partial credit can/will be awarded.

Cancellations of more than 14 days prior to a class are eligible for a full refund. Cancellations less than 14 days are not refundable, but monies less a $100 processing fee may be applied to any future AMTA-NY Chapter event. No shows are not eligible for refund or use on future classes. Cancellations are based on post mark or email date and all cancellations must be in writing. Exceptions made only with approval of the AMTA-NY Chapter Board of Directors. Continuing Education Credit Certificates given only upon successful completion of class. No partial credit will be issued. Partial refunds for non-completed classes given only in emergency situations and with Chapter President’s approval.

AMTA New York Chapter is an Approved Provider for continuing Education by the NYSED Office of the Professions State Board for Massage Therapy (#003)
and by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) (#450787-08).

We welcome all licensed massage therapists and currently enrolled massage therapy students to our classes, however per New York State law, you must have a New York State massage therapy license to participate in the hands-on portions. (Currently enrolled students may participate in hands-on if accompanied by their school instructor.)
